The evolution of breast implants

Breast implants has evolved from silicone filled to the now cohesive silicone gel implants which are safer and last longer. In my clinic, I used MENTOR® MemoryShape® Breast Implants that comes in a tear drop and round shape. The secret to MENTOR® MemoryShape® Breast Implants is that it can shape the breast to give a more natural shape with the same texture of a breast tissue. Especially for the tear-drop shaped implants that gives the natural shape of the breast with a flat top to the more dense bottom part of the breast.

The problem with breast implants is, many worry that it might cause one not able to breast feed. It’s all about the placement of the implants. For some, the implants are placed below the chest muscle. This will enable the lady to breast feed in the future as the procedure does not disturb or damage the milk ducts.

Also, by placing the breast implants under the muscle, it will be supported by the muscle and chances of sagging are uncommon. For breast implants that are placed underneath the muscle, an incision is made under the breast, hence making the scar less to not visible at all.

The procedure is done under sedation administered by an anesthetist and a minimal side effect from sedation is expected as compared to general anesthesia. All in all, the procedure takes about an hour to an hour and a half. The feeling of the breast after the implants will be slightly firm as the muscle is not slightly stretched but it will take some time, approximately within three months, and the muscle will soften as it get used to the implants.

After the procedure is done, the patient is able to go back home and take a rest and come back for a review immediately the next day. Following that, the patient can also go back to work the day after the review. It is recommended that the patients stay away from wearing a bra for the next three months to let the implants settle in, but nipple tapes are okay to use.

One of my most impressed patients whose done breast implant is blogger Vikki. This was somewhere November 2015 and you can read about it on

Vikki also had a really full on coverage of her journey to her desired breast. Her procedure also appeared on 8 days magazine where she expressed her joy of getting the breast implants and the confidence along with it.

Till date, there have been ladies that come over to our clinic to get breast implants and the results have been really satisfying for them. It makes me happy to know that my patients are happy with the desires that they had. As of recently, there seemed to be an increased in the number of ladies enquiring and having breast implants. Hopefully, we’ll be able to help all these ladies get the confidence that they’re looking for and onwards to a brighter future.
